Martlesham Heath Aviation Society

Once again we had a great time at the MHAS Open Day on September 11.  The YouTube video here captures the flavour of the occasion – the piping is about 25 minutes in (!)  Next year is their centenary – that’ll be fun!

Hold the Date

The 2017 Ipswich Piping Society Recital will be on Friday March 17 at 7.30pm at the Holiday Inn.  And who will the world-class recitalist be?  Watch this space, you won’t be disappointed…..

Bandstand on the Beach, Aldeburgh

DSC_0132The Society was honoured to be invited to play on the last day of Aldeburgh Music Festival’s lunchtime concerts on the beach on June 26.  DSC_0094Well it did rain a bit but we played Highland Cathedral with the famous Co-op Brass Band and a good set for pipes only.  Thanks for asking us and we’ll look forward to future events.  Last year we played at the Aldeburgh Musicircus so we are hoping to join in again with any future version of music on the beach.  Photos by piper Ron Bossingham DSC_0175

Suffolk Legion Day, Haughley

HaughleySociety pipers put on a good show on July 2 at the well attended County Rally and Village Fete in Haughley supported by the Royal British Legion.

Scotland in Colchester

Great day for Ipswich pipers in Colchester on June 12 – success for pipers playing with Essex Caledonian and Glenmoriston pipe bands and also a first place in the under 14s quick march for Albie Willett imagewho played Miss Elspeth Campbell.  He also came 2nd in the under 18s march,  strathspey and reel.  Well done by our youngest society member!

Terry Tully

Well that was some evening; the fifth year of the Society’s recitals and the best attended yetIMG_3046 (around 90 people came along, some from considerable distances and ranging in age from 11 to 90ish….).  Terry played a fabulous range of  mostly Irish tunes, IMG_3040many of them his own compositions and the room was enthralled.  His sound and style were very wonderful; copies of his music collections flew off the table as we all tried to work out how to get anywhere near the way he conjured beautiful, special music from his impeccable sounding bagpipes.  Watch this space and we’ll try to come up with a recital next year which comes somewhere close to that quality.
