What a piper! What a great evening on Friday April 13 at the Holiday Inn in Ipswich – over 100 enthusiasts came from all over East Anglia to hear and see one of the very great players in action. Wonderful stuff…. Who can forget his finale rendition of Mason’s Apron? Or the two piobaireachds, Too Long in this Condition and Scarce of Fishing. Not to mention Banjo Breakdown and of course Fiddlers’ Rally. Wow!

Late Burns Night

Instead of our normal Monday meeting on Monday February 27 we are having a Society Burns Night – £6.95 a head for haggis with all the trimmings, the bar open as usual, a bit of piping and story telling. It’s at McGinty’s Bar in Northgate Street, starting 7.30 pm.

Gordon Walker comes to Ipswich

It’s a privilege to announce that world-class piper Gordon Walker is coming to Ipswich as a guest of Ipswich Piping Society for a recital on Friday April 13th at 7.30pm at the Holiday Inn, The Havens, Ransome’s Europark (just off the A14 at the Nacton exit). Ticket price is £12 for what is sure to be the piping event of the year in the East of England. Ticket sales details will be available soon but mark the date in your diary. Great Evening of Music

Steve Watterston treated us to a wonderful selection of marches, strathspeys, reels, jigs and hornpipes – it was a fantastic evening of piping appreciated by an audience of enthusiasts. For this writer the highlight was his performance of the piobaireachd End of the Great Bridge – but it’s hard to choose. Thanks to Steve for a great recital, come back and see us again soon…..

We are very proud to announce a recital by prize-winning piper Steve Watterston on Monday October 17th 2011 at 7.30pm at St Margaret’s Church Centre, Bolton Lane, Ipswich IP4 2BT. Steve is one of the very best pipers playing anywhere in the UK today, a regular prize winner at events organised by the Scottish Piping Society of London and the Scottish Pipe Band Association. He will be giving us a selection of fine light music and piobaireachd. Do come along to this very special event – it will be £5 at the door and we will offer refreshments in return for a small donation.
