Mayor of Ipswich’s Charity Burns Night

Alex Carruthers and Rod Caird played at the Ipswich Borough Council's Charity Burns Night on January 22, 2012

Great Evening of Music

Steve Watterston treated us to a wonderful selection of marches, strathspeys, reels, jigs and hornpipes – it was a fantastic evening of piping appreciated by an audience of enthusiasts.  For this writer the highlight was his performance of the piobaireachd End of the Great Bridge – but it’s hard to choose.  Thanks to Steve for a great recital, come back and see us again soon…..

Festival of Fire

David Gillingwater played at the inaugural Festival of Fire in Waldringfield this week; 200 villagers paraded to the river-front accompanied by fine piping.  Here’s hoping this becomes an annual tradition.  Photo by Denise Underdown.

Recital

We are very proud to announce a recital by prize-winning piper Steve Watterston on Monday October 17th 2011 at 7.30pm at St Margaret’s Church Centre, Bolton Lane, Ipswich IP4 2BT.  Steve is one of the very best pipers playing anywhere in the UK today, a regular prize winner at events organised by the Scottish Piping Society of London and the Scottish Pipe Band Association. He will be giving us a selection of fine light music and piobaireachd.  Do come along to this very special event – it will be £5 at the door and we will offer refreshments in return for a small donation.

Martlesham Open Day

We had a great day playing at the Martlesham Heath Aviation Society open day yesterday.  A historic place, a good, well-attended day out – and some poignant reminders of the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Thanks to the organisers for inviting us and we’ll hope to see you again next year.

Martlesham Heath Aviation Society

We’re playing on Sunday September 11 at the Martlesham Heath Aviation Society Open Day – always a fun occasion.  Check out their website for more details -http://www.mhas.org.uk/.  We’ll be here from 12.00 noon – and there are loads of activities for a good day out.  Come along and join us…….

Reminder

No Monday meeting on August 29th because of the Bank Holiday……

Wet Day at the Henley Fair

Well it was a very damp day, but we had a good time….

Henley Summer Fair

Don’t miss our performance at Henley Summer Fair tomorrow, July 16th, from about 10.45!  We’re kicking off the day, which promises be great fun.  Hope to see you there…… Henley’s just north of Ipswich, the Community Centre is on Ashbocking Road.  Easy to find, listen out for the piping.

Desert Rats Commemoration

We were honoured to receive this photo, signed by the Duchess of Cornwall, as a memento of the Desert Rats Commemoration at Orwell Park School last November.
