Piping at Ipswich Library

Ipswich Library

Great day yesterday, playing at Ipswich Library’s World Music weekend.  The Ipswich Star reported:

The Ipswich World Music Weekend was staged at the Ipswich County Library, Northgate Street, with nearly 20 groups giving free performances or taking part in workshops.

It is the fifth year the event has been held and organisers were delighted with the number of people who turned up to watch and take part.

Library manager Marion Harvey said: “It’s been a fantastic weekend and we have had a big variety of performers taking part.

“There is a diverse community living in the town centre and we started the event as one of the ways to bring customers into the library.

“We wanted to include something from as many different cultures as possible and for it to be a celebration of music, dance customs and fashion.

“I think people have really enjoyed it.”

Among those performing were Danegeld Morris, a Chinese children’s choir, Indian classical dance, the Ipswich Piping Society, Primo Nelson Funk Band, Hara Tribal Belly Dance, Samboomba, plus Balkan, Egyptian, Bollywood, ballroom, disco and street dance.
